VMWARE VCLOUD DIRECTOR 8.20 - ORGANIZATION VDC CANNOT BE DELETED - NO RESOURCE POOLS BACKING THE SUPPLIED ORG VDC
In our vCloud Director Lab environment, an Organization VDC was created while neither vCenter Server nor NSX Manager were available. Although the organization VDC was created and visible in the vCD GUI, no resource pool could be created in the vCenter Server because vCD could not connect. Even after reconnecting, the Organization VDC could not be deleted because the vCloud Director database created the entries to the Organization VDC but could not link a resource pool.
The error message when deleting the Org VDC was as follows:
Internal Server Error - No resource pools backing the supplied Org VDC
The values for Vc and ResourcePoolMoref were empty for the search cloud query via PowerCLI.
The solution was to manually create the resource pool and the database entry to link the VDC to the resource pool.
First, the name of the referenced resource pool must be queried from the database.
You can find this value in table dbo.vrp in the Name column. The value of the ID column is required in a later step. The computehub_id and sub_rp_vc_id can be copied from another VDC because there is only one vCenter Server and Root Resource Pool in the Lab environment.
The resource pool can now be created manually in vCenter Server with the determined name.
To get the last required value, the MorefID of the new resource pool can be found in the vCenter Server MOB.
The created resource pool must now be linked to the organization VDC in the database. This is done in table dbo.vrp_rp. To do this, execute the following query and replace it with the values determined beforehand.
INSERT INTO dbo.vrp_rp (id, vrp_id, computehub_id, sub_rp_vc_id, sub_rp_moref, version_number) VALUES (0xT726TSAW845032XX8JPV45ELWWBDZOLN, 0x8D0BH089ARNNM2267ZXFZ56P43GQE2SU, 0x2OTN6J58VXKI364PYYENZ7MJVKGHRCJ5, 0xCN1RP8IKIUJH7M4N6O7C00KFNZH5H9P9, 'resgroup-109', 0)
After a refresh of the Org VDC in the vCD GUI the resource pool is now visible and the Organization VDC can be deleted.
